Why did we need to visit Homac, a Japanese version of Home Depot? Living in a campervan in winter conditions – and winter on Hokkaido is REALLY harsh – is still a pretty exotic idea for local camper van rental companies. That is why they do not equip the van with various winter gear and you need to obtain several items that will make your stay easier and more comfortable. Lucky for you, we have extensive experience in winter „campervaning”, so you do not need to worry. The items you need are:

  • a thick blanket to separate the cab from the living area, especially for the night – as the cab has a lot of glass, it looses heat quickly. Such blanket will help to reduce that.

Make it work as a curtain and you will keep your tiny home warmer

  • a broomstick for cleaning your boots before entering the van – you want as little melted snow inside the van as possible
  • a snow shovel – you may get a cheap big plastic shovel, but providing that you came to Hokkaido for powder skiing, you surely have your avalanche shovels and use them in case you get stuck or wind will create some snow windlips around the van

When we were leaving, we gave some advice to people from DO CAMPER, so there is a great chance that these items will already be in the van when you get there!
