Finally, it was time to change the heavy backpacks into light, ski ones and make use of that snow covering surrounding peaks – so we went up to the couloirs. First impression? We were immediately delighted with the quality of the snow! During the descent, we were not disturbed even by the deep footprints we made during the ascent. We agreed that we rarely have such good conditions in the Alps. The first descent, and it was brilliant right away! After we successfully reached the camp site, it turned out that our filmmaker Jakob had found some company.
He was joined by a 60-year-old Russian guide who was leading three very burly ladies on a trip. Waldemar congratulated us the skiing, and a smile of joy sparkled with the silver crowns of his teeth, so popular with the locals. His strong handshake and face on which the wind and weather had left their mark, showed that this man had survived a lot in the mountains. Inspired by the appreciation of the local spirit of the mountains, we eagerly grabbed shovels to prepare a place for tents. We left the hut for the guide and his companions.
