But you do not plan to switch to ultralight touring equipment?

No! (laughs) But let’s put it this way – I surely want to have suitable equipment to be able to move quickly. You do not always need to take a lot of stuff with you, sometimes you just put a buff on your head and move fast to get somewhere.

But when you get somewhere, you won’t regret not taking serious 115-millimeter underfoot freeride planks with you?

100 mm is still enough to make a good line. Skis of this size weigh much less than 2kg nowadays, so the “light & fast” idea is also making its way in freeriding.

When you are close to the resort, you can use wider and heavier skis, but when you are in remote areas, where in case of emergency you are on your own, you probably should not push yourself too much, thus you will not need such big skis.

Ski movies are a different story. We only see the descent, but there are guides securing the area, helicopters and film crews who are also trained in avalanche search. So potentially riders can make one step further, and still be assured that if anything happens, their chances are greater. Being alone with your crew in the mountains and using slightly lighter equipment can make sense.
